how can i tell if my m1 carbine is universal or standard usgi?

my grandfather bougth it like 40 years ago it has a 12.5 inch barrel no marking the rear sigth as a PI stamped on the rigth side under the serial number it has a B marked or at least it looks like one the stock is not original one. the SN stars 236 thats all i know .could any one help me i want to buy a new stock for it a folding stock synthetic but cant order till i know what is it. so if any one know were i can get a good deal would be very greatfull

Manufacturer’s name SHOULD be stamped on the receiver right by where it says “US CARBINE CAL. .30 M-1″

If it isn’t, then you have something strange.

Twelve-and-a-half-inch barrel? They were 18 from the factory.

If you’re in Canada, you have a Restricted Weapon or a Prohibited Weapon. Real good if you like prison food.

If you’re in the USA, it is quite likely that you are in violation of a whole BUNCH of laws. New 18-inch barrel is about 100 bucks. Numrich, Sarco, J&G should have them, Get one, have it put on. Prison food tastes lousy.
